Kappa Alpha Theta strives to uphold the utmost scholarship ideals. Through our scholarship program, we motivate our members to achieve greatness in the classroom, so that they will be able to succeed in the real world.
We have several fun incentive programs to motivate and reward members for academic success. Our Kite Tail Race is a competition between New Member Classes. Thetas can turn in A's that they receive on tests, papers and projects. These are written on bows and placed on the kite tail of their New Member Class kite. At the end of the semester, the kite with the most bows on the tail will win a prize like a pizza or ice cream party.
Another popular program is Smarty Panties. Every week there is a drawing from all the A's turned in and the winner of the drawing is given a $5 Victoria's Secret gift card. Who knew that good grades could lead to fun shopping?
This semester we will be re-installing an old program called Bettie Bucks. "Bettie Bucks" are named in honor of our chapter's founder, Bettie Locke. Bettie Bucks are given to Thetas for various academic successes, such as visiting a professor's office hours, meeting GPA goals at midterms, helping a sister study and other activities. At the end of the semester, an auction is held for members to spend the Bucks they have collected on items like movies, candy and cute KAΘ gear.
Our study files are updated every semester with old tests that Thetas can use to study. We also have a Rate-Your-Professor folder. Members are encouraged to rate professors, including details about their difficulty and teaching style. This year we are implementing an Enrollment Party. Before enrollment for the next semester starts, Thetas will have the chance to talk to others about classes, professors and majors to help make the next semester the best it can be.
A master course schedule is a resource used so women know other Thetas in their classes and can form study groups. New members to our chapter receive an academic mentor called a Scholar-Sis to help them adjust to college life. Mentors help new members with enrollment, finding buildings on campus, studying for tests, and setting and achieving lofty scholastic goals.
To reward Kappa Alpha Theta members for all of their hard work during the semester, we choose one of our formal dinners to serve as our scholarship banquet. Awards are given based on GPA. It's always an exciting dinner because everyone dresses up for the fun theme! Some previous themes have included Hollywood, High School Drop-out and Dress Like Your Major.
As Thetas, we strive to make scholarship a fun and rewarding experience, believing that it is an extremely important aspect of developing into strong and intelligent women. |
